Each gallon glass jar comes with an airtight, food-safe, BPA-free plastic lid. This offers versatility in your use of the jars; store pasta, cereal, flour, sugar, & more in any jars you are not using for fermentation! BPA-free plastic lids are a MUST for kombucha jars as well– metal lids can react with your kombucha. Should you ever need to transport your fermenting brew or SCOBYs, you can do so with peace of mind using these BPA-free plastic lids.
Please note fermenting brews should not be covered with a lid as they need airflow; we recommend using a coffee filter and rubber band to cover your jar during fermentation. –> These can be added to your jar order upon request; Simply enter “add coffee filter & rubber band for each jar” in the notes at checkout if desired.

Each jar is approximately 10 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and 4 inches in diameter at the mouth of the jar. Each jar holds one gallon, making it the perfect size for kombucha, sun tea, kefir, counter-top storage, fermentation, and more.

Why Glass?
Our gallon glass jars were made with kombucha home-brewing in mind. Glass is highly recommended and safest for kombucha brewing due to the acidic nature of kombucha. Glass jars will not react with kombucha as can happen with metal containers. Glass is also ideal for kombucha fermentation as it does not have the potential to leach unsafe chemicals as plastic containers are known to do.
Why One Gallon?
One gallon is the standard kombucha home-brewing size, and gallon brews work perfectly for second fermentation. A gallon kombucha brew ferments just the right amount of kombucha to fill up a standard six-pack of 16 ounce flip-top glass kombucha bottles for second fermentation, leaving you with 2 cups of starter tea for the next batch. You might even have a little bonus kombucha to drink while you bottle your second fermentation!
